Rasputitsa

On the eastern southeastern borders Kaliningrad, the Russian military has begun a sizable mechanized build-up close to the borders of Lithuania and Poland. While this would appear to be normal posturing by the Russians, high-altitude drones have captured a dangerous anomaly. Western-manufactured vehicles and what appears to be NATO weaponry are operating seamlessly alongside Russian state forces.

Fearing a complex false-flag operation designed to fracture the alliance or trigger a catastrophic Article 5 miscalculation, NATO cannot risk an overt military response. Instead, Polish Military Intelligence (SWW) has quietly hired Praetorian Defense Solutions (PDS) on a strict, off-the-books denial contract to uncover the truth. Operating as an un-badged reconnaissance element, your primary mandate is to cross the border, identify the origin of these Western assets, and map the extent of the Russian incursion before rigging the battlespace for a crippling preemptive strike. Plausible deniability is absolute, as leaving fallen comrades behind may significantly impact Russian operations in the region.

// POLITICAL SITUATION

The geopolitical climate is at a critical threshold. A conventional Russian mechanized build-up in Kaliningrad is a standard annual event; however, the integration of NATO vehicles and weaponry introduces a severe wildcard. If footage of Western armor attacking Russian border outposts is broadcast to state media, Moscow will have the excuse it needs to launch a "defensive" counter-offensive into neighboring countries. Officially, NATO command is paralyzed by indecision, unwilling to risk a significant escalation over unverified drone telemetry. Poland, viewing this as a direct existential threat, has unilaterally invoked a shadow-contract with PDS. PDS operators exist in a total diplomatic vacuum—if captured or killed, SWW will deny all knowledge, and operators will be branded as unsanctioned hostile actors.

// OPERATIONAL OBJECTIVES

PDS' primary objectives, at least initially, will be as follows:

- Identify the anomalous "western equipment" detected via drone survelliance.
- Attempt to gain information regarding the Russian's intent.
- Find a way to establish a secure connection to our client to pass along intelligence.

Further objectives may be added as events unfold.

// INTELLIGENCE

Overhead satellite reconnaissance is heavily degraded due to thick freezing morning fog and persistent cloud cover. High-altitude drones indicate a staggering density of Russian heavy armor and combat engineering assets, supplemented by the anomalous Western-equipped proxy forces. Furthermore, Russian state forces have deployed state-of-the-art Electronic Warfare (EW) complexes, severely degrading GPS and long-range communications in the sector. PDS operators must anticipate encounters with standard Russian mechanized infantry, armor elements, and Spetsnaz teams deployed for counter-reconnaissance.

// DEPLOYMENT

PDS will bypass fortified border checkpoints by exploiting the severe weather conditions and porous "green border" smuggling routes. Initial insertion will occur on 22 September, 2026, and will be strictly dismounted and low-visibility, crossing through the dense pine woods under the cover of torrential rain and fog. Teams will carry minimal heavy ordnance, relying on the acquisition of enemy supply trucks and the hijacking of anomalous Western vehicles to secure motorized transport and build logistical capacity once inside the theater.

This campaign will require members to own the Contact DLC.
