Due to the active conflict on St. George Island, Southern Cross has temporarily shuttered it's operations there for the time being. Due to this, as well as a significant number of people departing the island, the Interim Mayor of Saint George has declared a state of emergency, citing not only the damage caused during the engagements between units of the "Australian Military". With Southern Cross leaving, unemployment on the island has seen a sudden, and very significant, increase. Additionally, with the destruction of key communications sites on the island, contact with the outside world is now limited to shortwave radio.

A special session of the Australian parliament has been called to not only address this, but to begin an inquiry of what happened on the island. The Military has conducted a review of personnel, both KIA and MIA, and have noticed a significant discrepancy between active personnel listed on local active duty rosters and enlistment records housed in Sydney. A majority of personnel that are currently unaccounted for (officially listed on reports as MIA) were assigned to either the submarine base on the southwest, or the silo base in the east. All personnel KIA were present on enlistment/commissioning records.
