At the behest of our new client, the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (GRU), Praetorian will be deploying to the Island of Yulakia, approximately 40km west of the Republic of Georgia in the Black Sea. Our orders are to conduct clandestine insurgency and preparatory operations ahead of an invasion by the Russian Armed Forces.
Political Situation
The Russian Federation currently occupies roughly 21% of internationally recognized Georgian territory, and accordingly, political relations between the two states can be summed up as “hostile”. Due to several military operations conducted outside of it’s borders (the main example being Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine), NATO has embarked on an effort to expand it’s mission to include areas that were traditionally outside of it’s original mission statement.
Due to this, the Republic of Georgia and NATO have begun talks regarding the introduction of a permanent NATO presence on the island of Yulakia, to serve as a deterrent to further Russian expansionist efforts. These talks were immediately condemned by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who views any NATO presence outside of it’s traditionally established borders as an act of war.
